What Tockrate does

Tockrate produces one short video per day about technology news and publishes it to the operator's own accounts on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X. It is a publishing tool used by one person to post their own content.

Data collected from visitors

This website collects nothing. There are no cookies, no analytics, no trackers, no advertising pixels, and no contact forms. The site is static.

Data collected from viewers

Tockrate does not collect, receive, or store personal data about the people who watch its videos. Viewing happens on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X, and each of those platforms handles viewer data under its own privacy policy.

The software reads aggregate, non-identifying performance figures for the operator's own posts — view counts, likes, and watch-through rates — using each platform's official API. These figures describe posts, not people. No viewer names, profiles, comments, or contact details are retrieved or stored.

Platform access

Tockrate connects to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X only through those platforms' official APIs, and only to the operator's own accounts, authorized by the operator through each platform's standard consent flow. The permissions requested are limited to publishing videos and reading the operator's own post statistics.

Access tokens are stored locally on the operator's own computer in a file that is excluded from version control. They are never transmitted to any third party, and no other person has access to them. The operator can revoke Tockrate's access at any time from each platform's account settings, which immediately ends all access.

Google user data obtained through the YouTube Data API is used solely to upload videos to the operator's own channel and to read that channel's own statistics. It is not transferred to any third party, not used for advertising, and not used to build profiles. Tockrate's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Third-party services

To produce each video, Tockrate sends the text of publicly available news articles to Anthropic's Claude API for summarization and scripting. No personal data is included in these requests. Speech synthesis runs entirely on the operator's own computer; no audio leaves the machine.

Sources

Tockrate summarizes publicly published news and research. Every video names its source on screen. Requests for correction or removal can be sent to the contact address below and will be answered.
